Skating background:
I fell in love with figure skating when I saw Dorothy Hamill win the Olympics in 1976. I competed and tested as a youth in Milwaukee through pre juvenile and passed through 2nd figure test
I came back to skating after college when I saw an ad for the Badger State Games. It said “all
ages, all abilities”, so I thought there may be a spot for a twenty something who had a break
from skating. I had a great time and won my division, so that was that, and I was hooked again.
I competed in adult ladies gold, adult ladies masters, and in the juvenile and intermediate
categories. I won the artistic cup at Skate Le Voyager in DePere, Wisconsin, I was regional
champion in adult ladies gold at Upper Great Lakes, and won the pewter medal at Midwestern
Sectionals, and qualified for Adult Nationals 2 years in a row in which I competed in Adul
Ladies Gold and Adult Ladies Masters in freestyle and artistic events with success. During that
period, I tested through Gold Moves in the Field (skating skills), Bronze dance, and
intermediate Freestyle.
I knew I wanted to be a coach and to work with kids and adults on their skating and artistry. I
went back to UW-Milwaukee to get a second degree in the fine arts, (dance), feeling tha
knowledge would make me a better figure skating coach. It was very demanding an
satisfying. I danced professionally in the Modern Dance Company: Wild Space Dance
Company, an established modern dance company in Milwaukee.
I coached primarily in Milwaukee at the Pettit Center, passed skaters through gold moves and
freestyle. In 2006, I moved to Appleton, married my husband, and began to coach for the
Greater Green Bay Figure Skating Club.
Working with the kids and adults is amazing. I love sharing and seeing their growing passion
for the sport and their creativity as well. Kids and adults learn so much participating in skating
and all sports! Great life lessons are learned in sportsmanship, like how to be a gracious winner
as well as being positive and gracious runners up. The friends skaters make will last a lifetime,
as I have been so lucky to experience! As a coach, I feel I really have not had to “go to work”
because it honestly doesn’t feel like work, working with skating students!
